Boise State Webguide

Add Media

You can insert images, video, audio files, and documents (e.g., PDFs & MS Office files) into WordPress Pages and Posts.

There is a 12 megabyte file size limit for uploaded media.

Adding Images, Documents and Audio

Supported Media Types:

  • Images: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif
  • Documents: .pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx (SuperAdmins can add supported document types via Network Admin > Settings)
  • Audio: .mp3, .wma

In the WordPress editor, position your cursor where you’d like to insert an image, document, and/or audio file, and click the Star icon in the Upload/Insert section above the editor toolbar:

Choose “From Computer” to upload media to your site, “From URL” to import media from the web, or choose to insert media you’ve already uploaded via the “Media Gallery.”

Note: By default, WordPress automatically adds a hyperlink to your media. If you insert media, users will be able to click on the media and be redirected to a page only displaying the media itself. You can prevent this behavior by removing or modifying the “Link URL” field in the Add Media window.

Adding Video

We recommend you don’t insert any video larger than 700 pixels in width or height.

You can copy “embed” code from video sites such as YouTube or Vimeo, and then paste the embed code using the HTML View within the WordPress editor.

Special Instructions for YouTube

To copy embed code from YouTube, you need to check the setting for “Use old embed code”:

Copy the code and paste it into WordPress using the “HTML” view in the WordPress editor:

You’ll need to Preview or Publish your page or post before you can actually watch the video.
