Copying Content
Copying web content from an existing website and pasting into WordPress? Here are some important things to know.
Visual vs. HTML Editor
The WordPress editor has two views: Visual and HTML.
The Visual editor is what you’ll likely use most of the time for typing text and inserting media.
But the HTML editor is what we recommend you use when you’re pasting content you’ve copied from another application (e.g., a web browser, Dreamweaver, etc.). Using the HTML editor for pasting content will usually prevent certain HTML tags ignored by WordPress from coming over with your information, and will save you time in the long run.
So, when pasting, toggle the HTML editor. When done, toggle back to the Visual editor.
Except when it comes to Microsoft Word. Read on…
Copying from Microsoft Word
Use the “Paste from Word” feature on the WordPress toolbar for pasting content copied from Microsoft Office applications:
This will strip out the usual mishmash of Microsoft Word format issues.
Copying Images and Other Media
See our page for additional instructions regarding copying images and media.
Still Having Problems Pasting Content?
Try using the “Paste as Plain Text” tool:
This will paste your content into the editor free of any formatting.
